Helping Kirana stores become brands

We’re at a fascinating inflection point in Indian retail. The future isn’t standardization at scale - it’s customization at the micro-layer. OneKiraana is bringing mass customization to India’s 13 million kirana stores.

Think about your hometown kirana store for a moment. When you ask for flavoured Makhana, they already know the flavour, size, brand, and they'll get sent home without being asked twice. That trust, built over years of knowing exactly who you are and what you need, is something no retail chain has ever been able to manufacture. Ankur Capital led the $1.6 million seed round in OneKiraana because last-mile logistics, distributed manufacturing, and AI-driven analytics have now matured to the point where that unstructured, hyperlocal intelligence can be captured, processed, and turned into real business advantage at scale.

OneKiraana builds exactly that infrastructure, starting with private labels. Their platform enables any kirana to launch its own branded products, customize assortment, packaging, and pricing for its specific neighborhood. A store in South Mumbai can stock premium organic staples under its own brand while a store in Borivali runs value-oriented packs. Both are powered by the same backend, driven by localized sales data rather than guesswork. This transforms kiranas from resellers into branded destinations, strengthening the customer loyalty they have already earned and improving margins in the process.

Beneath the product layer sits something more durable: a growing intelligence layer built from kirana-level demand data. SKU-level sales velocity, pricing behavior, regional preferences, and working capital cycles feed directly into sourcing, production planning, and distribution decisions. Faster-moving products are replenished efficiently. Slower ones are rationalized early. Pricing analytics give retailers the ability to position their private labels competitively within their own neighborhood, shifting what was once intuition-driven into data-informed decision making. As more stores join, forecasting sharpens, supplier negotiations improve, and the economics get better for everyone on the platform.

OneKiraana also tackles last-mile delivery, connecting stores with third-party logistics providers so kiranas can offer home delivery without fixed staffing costs. Every order generates behavioral data: basket sizes, purchase frequency, and repeat patterns, all feeding back into assortment and sourcing decisions and making the intelligence layer richer over time.

Bhavin and Umang built OneKiraana on a precise insight: kiranas don't need incremental improvements, they need foundational infrastructure. Not just better procurement, but visibility. Not just private labels, but the intelligence to decide what to launch, at what price, and in what quantity. Starting with 900+ stores, they have shown that when execution meets demand data, a neighborhood retailer can compete like a scaled chain without losing independence.

Every store that joins sharpens the intelligence layer. Sharper intelligence improves manufacturing and procurement. Better procurement strengthens retailer economics. Stronger economics attracts more stores. The best retail infrastructure doesn't just reduce costs. It expands what a retailer believes is possible. That is what OneKiraana is building for India's most trusted retail institution, and we are proud to back them.
